A short film making competition like no other awaits where you get a chance of a life time to travel, stay, and film in Thailand for 30 days with very attractive expenses paid for ! In what is to be the region’s first ever competition of its kind, Film Expo Asia 2010 aims to promote Thailand as the land of rich cultures and heritage, and to inspire the country as the best destination for film making and travelling.
The competition, presented by Thai Government and Global sponsors, challenges students to create their own creative short cinematic interpretation of The King of Thailand - - for His Majesty’s simple way of life, diligence and hard work, and ever lasting inspiration to his citizens.
WHO: Asian students from all over the world or students studying in Asian countries.
THEME OF THE YEAR 2010:Living Faith Of The Beloved King
LENGTH: 5 to 7 minutes including titles and credits
SUBMISSION: 20 January – 15 May 2010

Registration for entry begins in January 2010.
Entrants will send in their 500-1,000 word treatment and
from these entries 99 teams are to be selected to travel
to Thailand for the competition by end of May 2010.
Contestants are to compete from the period of July 8th
to August 10th, 2010 and are encouraged to use locations in Thailand and His Majesty’s Royal Development Projects to uphold the theme.
Announcement of winning selections will be made at a special awards screening event to be held in July. Not only will all 99 films from the selected contestants be showcased to the general public during the Film Expo Asia Festival, they will also be distributed to viewers from all participating countries in the region.

Rules & Regulations
| |
GENERAL RULES & REGULATIONS:
-
The selecting committee will choose 99 teams for nomination to enter the contest as Film Expo Asia Filmmakers.
-
The orientation, the
pre-production, the production, and the
post-production will all take place in Thailand
during July 8th - August 10th, 2010.
-
The contestants will form their own teams from 2 to 4 members.
-
There must be at least one current STUDENT (in any field) in a team.
-
There must be at least one member of the team whom resides/studiesin an Asian countries OR is Asian ethinic/citizen.
-
The short film shall be 5-7 minutes in length with its content focused on “CHARISMA OF THAI’S HEART”, under the key message “LIVING FAITH OF THE BELOVED KING.”
-
The narration/conversation/monologue/dialogue has to be in English or Thai, with subtitles in the respective alternate language (i.e. -Thai w/English subtitles or English w/Thai subtitles).

The short film must be shot in High Definition format and the final output must also be delivered on HD.

The team shall bring their own camera and computer notebook capable of shooting and editing in HD format. Otherwise, film equipment packages can be rented from the sources suggested on www.filmexpoasia.com (Click Filmmaker Section).

Participants must be able to
attend the activities from July 8th - August 10th,
2010.

Agree to abide by the stipulations of this contest and to accept the decisions made by the jury.

By submitting an entry, applicants agree to release ownership of the media for purposes of promoting the contest and upon becoming one of the nine (9) finalist that the FULL COPYRIGHT of all works shall belong to the Federation of National Film Association of Thailand and the Software Industry Promotion Agency (SIPA); the host of the contest.
NOMINATION:
Based chiefly on the merit of how smooth and wisely the stories related to the theme of the year, the selecting committee will choose 99 teams for nomination to enter the contest and the result will be announced on the official website. (www.filmexpoasia.com) The eligible applicants will also be notified by e-mail. The decision made by the selecting committee is final.

Facilities & Production Support

FACILITIES & PRODUCTION SUPPORT:
- 2 economy round trip air tickets per team from Thai Airways International. (Compared to THB 30,000)
FEA will provide a round trip flight for merely Asian routes from/to Bangkok, Thailand.

Production and Submission of the Products
| |
Pre - production for selected filmmakers:
-
The contestants should thoroughly look through the equipment, location, and casting list provided on Filmmaker Section. Any questions or any other request about the production should be posted online.
-
Every team must submit a “Production Schedule” verified locations and shooting dates through Filmmaker Section at least 2 weeks before the orientation.
-
Equipment/Accommodation reservation forms must be filled out and uploaded together with the “Production Schedule”.
-
Each team must turn in the final shooting script at least a week before first-day shooting.
-
Equipment and locations will be approved on a first come, first served basis.
Production
-
Production Admin. Office will offer one local production assistant (PA) to each team; he/she will be helping in coordinating and communication but will NOT be a key crew member on set.
-
The last shooting day is July 24, 2010. All rented equipment must be checked in to rental houses before 6pm on this date.
Post – Production
- Production Admin. Office can provide post-production house contact and information upon request. No editing facility will be provided.
- The final products (film master) to be submitted are ONE HDCAM, DVCAM or MiniDV, 2 COPIES of DVDs Video (Region 0), and 2 COPY of DVDs DATA containing a film in QUICKTIME HIGH RESOLUTION : H264 (ENCODE) format
Submission Deadline is June 25, 2010, 6 PM Bangkok Time.
WE SHALL NOT ACCEPT ANY FILM LATER THAN THE DEADLINE FOR CONSIDERATION
PLEASE NOTE: Filmmakers’ discipline from pre production to subtitle preparation will be observed by Production Admin. Office and will be reported to the committee as part of the final decision making process.

Award Announcement

FINAL DECISION AND AWARD WINNING:
-
The organizing committee will invite both local and international experts and renowned short filmmakers to serve on the jury.
-
The first set of the jury will select 30 short films to qualify for the final contest.
-
The grand jury will then select 1 short film to be the WINNER and other 8 films for HONORABLE MENTION.
- The decisions made by both sets of jury are final.
